Miranda Lambert is opening up about the moment she first met Ella Langley — and according to Miranda, it was one of the most unexpectedly emotional experiences she has had in recent memory. Not because it was dramatic. But because it was like looking directly into a mirror.
“I called my manager and said, ‘Oh, sorry for everything.’ Because now I know what it’s like because it’s exactly like looking in the mirror,” Lambert shared during a May 15 interview with Cody Alan on SiriusXM’s The Highway.
That manager is Marion Kraft, who has been by Lambert’s side since she was just 19 years old. One look at a young, fiercely confident, completely self-assured Ella Langley — and suddenly, Miranda understood every single grey hair she may have caused.
How It All Started
The two first crossed paths at the BMI Awards in Nashville, brought together by songwriter Natalie Hemby — a longtime Lambert collaborator who apparently has a gift for knowing exactly who needs to be in a room together.
“Natalie was like, ‘Y’all need to be friends’…Immediately, like, I could tell there was a kindred spirit there,” Lambert recalled.
It did not take long to see why. Lambert describes Langley as feisty, strong, and someone who knows exactly who she is and what she wants — qualities that Miranda knows better than anyone, because they are the same ones that defined her own early career.
“She’s just so feisty and so strong and knows exactly who she is and what she wants, and it really reminded me of myself,” she said.
And then came the line that says everything about how Miranda feels about this young woman she has taken under her wing.
“I love her for all the things that probably annoyed my manager about me. Very strong-willed, but also very set in your ways — but also, like, it’s right. Because she believes in it so much, and it’s so inspiring to see an artist that just walks with that much confidence.”
From Fans To Friends
The friendship truly caught fire when Lambert got her hands on an early, unreleased copy of Langley’s debut album Hungover. She listened. She was blown away. And she did what any good friend does — she picked up the phone.
“Called her. I was like, ‘This is great.’ And told her my favorite songs. And then from there, we just kind of struck up our friendship.”
From that phone call, a creative partnership was born that has since produced some of the most exciting moments in recent country music.
What They Have Built Together
The pair released “Butterfly Season” as a proper duet, featured on Langley’s sophomore album Dandelion. But that is just the beginning of what these two have created together.
They co-wrote “Choosin’ Texas” — the record-breaking single that has spent weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped launch Dandelion to a No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200. Lambert also appeared in the music video, making the collaboration as visual as it was musical.
And at the 2025 ACM Awards, the two shared a stage to perform Lambert’s iconic 2005 breakout hit “Kerosene” — a moment that felt less like a performance and more like a passing of the torch between two women who were always meant to find each other.
A Friendship That Feels Like Fate
Miranda Lambert did not just discover a talented young artist. She found a reflection of herself — the version that was twenty years younger, just as stubborn, just as certain, and just as destined for something great.
And if Marion Kraft is reading this — Miranda is sorry. She gets it now.
She really, truly gets it. 🌼🔥
