The title may be “Last Thing You Need,” but Morgan Wallen’s latest release might be exactly what his fans have been waiting for.
Wallen dropped the new song Thursday, Sept. 17, as part of the soundtrack connected to the highly anticipated video game Grand Theft Auto VI. Although the game itself isn’t scheduled to arrive until Nov. 19, fans don’t have to wait that long to hear Wallen’s contribution.
Morgan Wallen’s New Song “Last Thing You Need”
Rumors began earlier in the week when Wallen posted an unexplained image on Tuesday, Sept. 15. The image showed an empty swimming pool and featured a visual style that immediately reminded fans of Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto franchise.
The pool also caught the attention of longtime Wallen fans because it looked similar to the setting featured in his 2017 music video for “The Way I Talk.”
Two days later, Wallen confirmed the speculation, announcing that “Last Thing You Need” had been released as part of Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album.
Musically, the track continues Wallen’s evolving sound. Building on the style he explored on his 2025 triple album I’m The Problem, “Last Thing You Need” blends his familiar country vocals with atmospheric, electronic-inspired production.
The result is a more unexpected sound from Wallen, combining his country twang with an energetic, almost trance-like backdrop that could fit perfectly into the world of GTA VI.
The release also adds another major moment to Wallen’s busy 2026. Earlier this year, he released “Been By Now” and teamed up with Ella Langley on “I Can’t Love You Anymore.” He also joined HARDY, Eric Church, and Tim McGraw for “McArthur.”
Fans Are Already Imagining Morgan Wallen in GTA 6
Wallen’s involvement with the upcoming game immediately sparked reactions across social media.
One popular joke making the rounds was, “We got Morgan Wallen in GTA 6 before GTA 6,” referencing the long wait for the highly anticipated game.
Other fans were already imagining themselves cruising through the fictional world of GTA VI with Wallen playing in the background.
One fan joked about picking up a friend while blasting the new song before heading into a fictional crime spree, while another imagined driving through the game’s backroads with Wallen on the soundtrack.
With “Last Thing You Need” now available, fans can get a taste of Morgan Wallen’s GTA VI era before the game itself finally arrives.
