Kenny Chesney’s stadium concerts may look effortless when he’s standing in front of tens of thousands of screaming fans, but getting that show ready is anything but simple.
The country superstar recently gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at just how much preparation goes into his massive live performances—and one detail is especially surprising: when he’s preparing for a stadium tour, Chesney actually rents the entire football stadium for a week to rehearse.
During a conversation on The Bobby Bones Show, Chesney was asked how he prepares a production that is big enough to fill a football stadium.
His answer revealed just how seriously he takes the process.
Chesney explained that his team first works in a large rehearsal facility, where they can build the production and get everything organized. But eventually, they need to experience the show inside a real stadium.
That’s when they head to the stadium itself.
According to Chesney, his tour has traditionally opened in Tampa, and the team spends the week before the first concert inside the stadium rehearsing the complete production.
It makes sense when you consider the scale of a Kenny Chesney concert.
His stadium shows involve far more than simply putting a band on a stage. Lighting, video screens, sound, staging, choreography, set changes and countless technical details all have to work together perfectly.
Chesney’s official tour updates have repeatedly shown how much time goes into getting those elements right. Before his 2024 Sun Goes Down Tour, his team spent weeks working through lighting cues, video, the set list and other production details.
The singer has also described his stadium performances as something that requires serious physical preparation. His concerts are famously energetic, and Chesney has explained that he trains his body and voice for the demands of performing at that level. In a 2025 interview, he discussed how he even runs on a treadmill while singing as part of his preparation for stadium shows.
And once the tour reaches the stadium, the rehearsal becomes another level of preparation.
In 2022, Chesney’s team rehearsed at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa before the Here And Now Tour began. The production was loaded into the stadium, with the stage positioned deep in the end zone as the crew worked through sound, video and lighting.
For Chesney, this level of preparation is ultimately about one thing: giving No Shoes Nation the best possible experience.
He knows that when fans walk into a football stadium, they expect more than a concert. They expect a huge night filled with energy, familiar songs, lights, sound and the feeling of being part of something much bigger than themselves.
