Hwang Dong Hyuk, director of this megahit Netflix series ‘Squid Games‘ has opened about the stories regarding the show.
In an exclusive media interview, director Hwang Dong Hyuk revealed that he had finished writing the script for ‘Squid Game’ in 2009. However, his script continued to be rejected by investors and actors who thought the script was “strange”. This rejection continued for ten years, and the studios were not interested in resuming its project. He said, “There were many people who told me that [‘Squid Game’] was a project that was weird and too unrealistic. I’ve been consistently turned down by investors and actors.”
Director Hwang Dong Hyuk continued: In 2009 when I completed writing the script, the content was too unfamiliar with current society and culture at the time. Having been rejected by investors, I found it too premature [to return it to the world]. Ten years later, the OTT platform emerged, the [large] gap between rich and poor became severe, and plans ‘getting rich quickly’ became more and more idealized. Having met [all these conditions], I think this is how this series got out into the world.”
Now the show has taken over the world and it is predicted to become Netflix’s most-watched TV show. Feel free to express your opinion in the comments below.
