Neil Diamond Honored with Inspirational Lifetime Achievement Award at Carousel Ball

In an elegant evening of music, generosity, and heartfelt stories, legendary singer‐songwriter Neil Diamond was honored with the Inspirational Lifetime Achievement Award at the 39th Annual Carousel Ball held in Denver on October 11, 2025. The event, organized by the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, is recognized as one of the most prestigious galas in the charitable world, combining star-studded entertainment with a profound mission — raising funds and awareness for diabetes research and patient care.

The Carousel Ball, held at the elegant Hyatt Regency Denver, has been a cornerstone of the foundation’s fundraising efforts since its inception in 1977. In that time, it has raised over $117 million to support research, education, and care for people living with diabetes. This year’s gala was particularly special because it marked only the third time the Inspirational Lifetime Achievement Award has been presented. Previous recipients include renowned actor Sidney Poitier in 2016 and songwriter Diane Warren in 2024.

The main highlight of the night was Neil Diamond’s recognition. At 84 years old, with a career spanning more than six decades, Diamond was celebrated for both his mesmerizing music and his long-standing dedication to the foundation. The award is more than just an honor for his musical achievements — it also symbolizes his philanthropy, compassion, and willingness to use his platform for good.

As one of the best-selling musicians in history, Neil Diamond’s catalog is filled with timeless hits such as “Sweet Caroline,” “Song Sung Blue,” and “America.” Over the years, he has sold more than 130 million records worldwide and has been inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame (1984) and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (2011). He has also received numerous prestigious awards, including the Kennedy Center Honors in 2011 and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018.

Even after retiring from touring due to Parkinson’s disease, Diamond remained active in music and philanthropy. He regularly supported the Children’s Diabetes Foundation by performing at concerts, donating proceeds, and lending his name to their cause. In a touching statement at the gala, Diamond said, “It’s been my absolute joy to support this foundation for so many wonderful years. Barbara Davis and her team have done immense good helping children and families facing difficult diagnoses.”

The gala also featured a stellar performance by the Goo Goo Dolls, who headlined the evening’s entertainment. Frontman John Rzeznik and bassist Robby Takac expressed their admiration for Diamond and highlighted the importance of the event’s mission, saying, “We’re honored to be part of an evening that lifts up music and gives back to families battling diabetes.”

The Carousel Ball is not just a glamorous event — it’s a symbol of hope and community. It brings together celebrities, philanthropists, medical professionals, and families united by one purpose: to support diabetes research and improve lives. Neil Diamond’s presence and recognition amplified that message. His lifetime of music touched millions, but his lifetime of giving has left an indelible mark on countless lives.

As the Orchestra played his songs and fans cheered, it was clear — this was more than just an award night. It was a celebration of perseverance, passion, and the power of one person’s kindness to inspire change. And for a night, the stage belonged to a true music legend whose heart was as big as his voice.
