Members of the K-Pop group SHINeeare still struggling to overcome the fact that their closest friend, member, and brother had left them forever on 18th December 2017 after he died by suicide leaving the suicide note and members distraught. the entire world witnessed the funeral ceremony as bits of it were broadcasted at that moment, the other members of the group were devastated, heartbroken, and crying by the huge loss.

SHINee’s fans (Shawols) were equally heartbroken, distraught, and traumatized by the memory of that funeral day. The members, as well as the fans, want to keep SHINee’s Kim Jong-hyun alive in their hearts and minds through their happy memories with him. And surely the fans would be enraged if someone uses the funeral portrait of SHINee’s Jonghyun and use it as a joke as it is such a sensitive issue. But guess what, an American singer Oliver Tree does what he shouldn’t have and used the funeral portrait as a joke and surely all hell breaks loose as fans are enraged.

 Oliver Tree’s insensitive post

Oliver Tree posted a photoshopped image on his YouTube feed with the caption, “REST IN PEACE SWEET BOWL CUT” on October 10. Fans of SHINee’s Jonghyun quickly noticed that the funeral portrait which was used in the post was that of the SHINee’s member Jonghyun, who had died by suicide on December 18, 2017. He faced a serious backlash as enraged fans started posting on social media platforms regarding how he was being insensitive and careless as he used a serious issue as a joke that had left them shattered for years together.

The issue has blown up all over the internet and the fans have made “#Apology_OliverTree” trending on Twitter. Later Oliver explained the situation on his official Instagram account. In the Instagram story which disappeared in 24 hours, he had said that he wasn’t aware of the source of the original photo and the photoshopped edit with his face on the funeral portrait was posted on his account a long time ago.

He realizes the gravity of posting sensitive images

He apologizes to all by saying that it was due to a lack of research in terms of the original source of the photo and he had a very foolish mistake. At the time of posting the photoshopped image, he and his team didn’t know where the post was from and his intention was not to hurt anyone. He says he has realized the gravity of posting sensitive images.

He should probably learn to apologize from PewDiePie (Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg) as his apology shows no remorse or regret from the singer. Oliver Tree tried to explain his reason for using that picture but it made Shawols more and more upset as it did not really sound genuine and but looked like a pretty excuse. he revealed that his upcoming album and tour were going to be about death as his cousin had passed away when he was in middle school.

He then told fans of Jonghyun should, “understand it wasn’t intentional” and he sent deepest condolences to Jonghyun’s family and fans.

Oliver Tree gets called out by fans publicly

Jonghyun’s fans believe that Oliver tree hasn’t apologized properly and is just trying to justify his wrongdoing as he has been called out by a lot of fans publicly. One of the fans even quetoioned oliver by tweeting,”i feel sick. I just don’t understand how anybody can be so…idek the word for it… insensitive? stupid? Why would you do something like that? How the hell did you think that was a good idea? I can’t believe it’s real” #apology_Olivertree.

One of the fans was extremely angry as he believed Oliver Trees just making himself the victim and tweeted, “I’m ?? people who make an apology because of a disgusting mistake attempt to justify themselves with all the extra fluff like “oh i lost someone too and so…” everyone’s gone through shit in life but at least most think before they post.

An angry fan tweeted,”OH YEAH? #apology_Olivertree Then why not use your cousin’s picture? #올리버트리_사과해 EXCUSES. DISGUSTING.”
