Ong Seong-wu was born in South Korea’s Incheon. In addition to his younger sister, he has an older sister. In 2014, he graduated from Hanlim Multi Art School after attending Guwol Middle School. Dance and acting were his majors at Dong Seoul University.

During this time, he also danced professionally as being a member of a number of streets and B-boy dance teams. In the wake of his sister’s piano lessons, Ong’s mother urged him to pick up a musical instrument. After performing at a music competition in 2008, Ong was scouted as a potential trainee by the now-defunct Lion Media.

His debut was delayed due to internal problems at the company, which ultimately led to its closure, and he was unable to sign with other companies for a period of time. On the recommendation of one of his university professors, he joined his present business Fantagio in August 2016 as an acting trainee.

It’s no secret that Ong is a talented singer and dancer, but he was chosen by his firm as a representative for Produce 101 (season 2) because of his diverse talents. With 984,756 votes, he finished sixth in the finals with an “A” rating.

His debut as a member of Wanna One came as a result of finishing in the top eleven. To prepare for Produce 101, Ong had previously worked on a short film project called Short Film Project: Beginning. When Seong-wu Is Alright was released on June 19, 2017, it was a surprise hit.

Wanna One’s Ong made his debut as a member on August 7, 2017. After his presence on the show, media outlets praised him for his deceit of fellow contestants in the psychological game-style show, resulting in the biggest triumph for the show so far.

As of December 31, 2018, he no longer has a contract with Wanna One. It was not until January 24–27, 2019 that he made his last appearance with the group. It was in the months of March and April of this year that Ong started on his first solo fan-meeting tour, dubbed “Eternity”. Additionally, he was awarded Public Relations Ambassador of the Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education on March 7, 2019.
