‘Tale of the Nine Tailed’ is a South Korean tvN’s television drama starring Lee Dong-Wook, Kim Bum, and Jo Ba-ah. The series was released amid the Covid-19 pandemic. While most people were bored saying at home tvN offered a fantasy drama to avoid boredom that made the audience hooked from the very beginning to the end. Well, the first season has already ended about a year ago but season 2 hasn’t been released yet, and what about season 3? Here you will find out everything you need to know about the series.

Short summary

The drama is created by Lee Myung-Han. The series features the story of Lee Yeon (Lee Dong-Wook), a 1000-years-old nine-Tailed Gumiho and Nam JI-ah (Jo Bo- ah). Gumiho was once the guardian mountain spirit of Baekdudaegan but now is a city dweller who carries a mission to eradicate supernatural beings that threaten humans. Meanwhile, waiting for the reincarnation of his first love, Ah-Eum who had sacrificed her life to save him.

Yeon asked Ah-Eum to promise to be reincarnated and in return, he promised her that whenever she came back, he would find her through the fox bead. Throughout centuries, he encounters many women who look like Ah-Eum but neither of them had bored the fox bead. Later in the series, it is revealed that Ji-ah is Ah-Eum’s reincarnation as her fox bead appears when Yeon saved her from falling from the building.

Yeon’s half-brother Lee Rang (Kim-Bum) felt abandoned because Yeon had chosen to exchange his post as guardian mountain spirit for Ah-Eum’s reincarnation. So he teamed up with Ki Yoo-Ri (Kim Young-Ji) to harm humans to offend his brother.

Also Imoogi- an evil earth dragon is reincarnated and wants to inhabit the body of Yeon and Ji-ah’s heart also. The rest of the story is about them protecting their love from humans, demons, and supernatural beings by pacifying the broken hearts around them and beating the evil dragon.

Cast for season 2

It is revealed that the main casts Lee Dong-Wook and Kim-Bum are confirmed to be in season 2. But, it is revealed that Jo Bo-ah will be replaced by other new actresses. The production team has already started the casting process for a new female lead. Also, the director Kang Shin-Hyo will direct seasons 2 and 3 as well. Other supporting roles might be returning like Kim Jung-nan, Hwang Hee, Kim Soo-jin, Kim Yong-Ji, Ahn Gil-Kang, Lee Tae-Ri, Jung Si-Yul, and many new cast might be added as well.

Plot for season 2

Although the first season ended with a cliffhanger, the story might not begin from the cliffhanger as the network has confirmed that the next season would be set during the Japanese colonial occupation. It remains a mystery whether the story will connect with season one’s loose ends or follow anthology-style, as no other plot details have been released soo far.

The release date for season 2

No official announcement has been made by the production team about the released date for season 2. But tvN has confirmed that the “Tale of The Nine-Tailed Season 2” would have a total of 16 episodes.

What about season 3?

First, the second season will be released and only then the filming of the third season will begin. So, we might have to wait for a while for season 3 after the release of the second season but it is revealed that the third season will have at least 10 episodes and the story would be set in the Joseon Dynasty period. The third season is estimated to be released by 2023.
