Riley Green Reveals the Unexpected Way He Landed a Spot on The Voice

Riley Green is heading into one of the biggest roles of his career this fall as a new coach on The Voice Season 30 — but surprisingly, it wasn’t a position he actively pursued.

Instead, Green says the opportunity came directly to him after a series of unexpected moments that caught NBC’s attention.

“There were mentions that there was interest that I might be a possible candidate,” Green shared during a recent appearance on Country Countdown USA With Lon Helton. “But I didn’t apply for it. They came to me.”

According to Green, the real turning point happened during a visit to Los Angeles, where he participated in a Q&A at the Grammy Museum. That appearance, along with a later guest spot on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, helped seal the deal.

On Fallon, Green even showcased his personality by teaching the host how to use a duck call — a moment that apparently stood out to producers looking for a coach with charisma, humor, and authenticity.

“They said the personality that Blake had is what they’re looking for,” Green explained, referencing longtime former coach Blake Shelton. “Those two things got me the job.”

Despite landing one of the most high-profile roles in music television, Green admits he still feels a bit uncertain heading into the new season.

“I don’t know what to expect,” he said. “I haven’t met the other coaches yet.”

This season’s panel will also include Kelly Clarkson and Queen Latifah, alongside returning coach Adam Levine.

Even with his nerves, Green says he’s excited to learn the ropes and bring his own perspective to the big red chairs. Having watched artists like Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan guide contestants in past seasons, he feels more prepared to step into the coaching role himself.

“It’s such a different thing,” he admitted. “But I’m excited about the coaching part of it.”

The new role adds to an already packed year for Green, who has also dipped into acting with a guest role on the Yellowstone spin-off Marshals. He’ll also release his upcoming album That’s Just Me this fall, aligning with his Voice debut.

From surprise TV calls to acting gigs and new music, Riley Green is quickly proving that his career is expanding far beyond the country stage — whether he planned it or not. 🎤🌟
