Rock fans witnessed a truly special moment when legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore returned to the stage with Deep Purple for the first time in 33 years.
On August 12, 2026, Blackmore joined his former bandmates during Deep Purple’s concert at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York. The 81-year-old guitarist surprised the audience by appearing for the encore and performing the classic song “Smoke on the Water.”
The reunion was especially meaningful because Blackmore had not performed with Deep Purple since 1993, when he left the band. He later focused on projects including Rainbow and Blackmore’s Night.
