Aaron Watson recently shared a funny and honest take on Choosin’ Texas by Ella Langley, admitting that even Texas country insiders sometimes have questions about the lyrics.
Appearing on Taste of Country Nights, Watson joked that when he first heard the song, he “kind of freaked out” because of how it referenced Texas towns he knows well. As a proud Texas artist who has lived between Amarillo and Abilene, he couldn’t help but point out a logistical detail in the storytelling.
He laughed while explaining that the towns mentioned in the song are actually several hours apart. “First of all, those towns are like four and a half hours away from each other,” Watson said. “So where is homie going?”
Keeping the humor going, Watson added that it “would have been nice” if Langley and co-writer Miranda Lambert had consulted him before releasing the track—just to fact-check the Texas geography.
Despite the playful criticism, Watson made it clear he’s a fan of Langley’s music and what she represents in modern country. He even revealed that his teenage daughter is a big supporter of Langley, which has made the situation even more amusing at home.
In one lighthearted moment, Watson tried to impress his daughter by suggesting that Langley knew who he was, hoping to boost his “cool dad” status. But the reality quickly came out when his daughter pointed out that Langley didn’t follow him on Instagram. Watson later shared that Langley responded in a playful way, leaving a comment calling him “a lot,” which only added to the humor of the situation.
Even with the jokes, Watson’s story highlights the growing impact of Langley’s music—especially as Choosin’ Texas continues to gain attention far beyond traditional country audiences.
