Ella Langley Puts a Country Twist on “Never Gonna Give You Up”

Fans are going wild after Ella Langley gave an ’80s pop classic a slow, twangy country makeover.

A few days ago, she shared a TikTok video covering Rick Astley’s 1987 hit “Never Gonna Give You Up.” For anyone familiar with internet culture, the song is famously tied to the “Rickrolling” meme, where Astley’s original video pops up unexpectedly.

Ella explained that the song had been “stuck in my head all day,” so she picked up her acoustic guitar and tried her hand at it—and absolutely nailed it. She infused the track with her own country style while still paying homage to the original.

Though the clip is only 18 seconds long, it quickly went viral, racking up over 1.2 million views. Fans flooded the comments, begging for a full version, with reactions like:

  • “Damn, that voice hits. Stevie Nicks meets Shania.”

  • “Your voice tickles my brain 🧠 in all the best ways 😁.”

  • “The best Rickroll I could ask for 🥰.”

  • “Country music needed you.”

Ella Langley Hits Major Career Milestones

Ella has been making waves in the country music scene at lightning speed. A major highlight came with her latest single, Choosin’ Texas, released on October 17.

Co-written with country superstar Miranda Lambert and inspired by one of Miranda’s real-life stories, the song quickly became a hit. In December, it reached number one on the US Hot Country Songs chart—Ella’s first solo chart-topper.

The single also became the fastest-rising solo female song at US country radio this decade, hitting the top ten in just eight weeks. Recently, Choosin’ Texas climbed to number five on the Billboard Hot 100, marking Ella’s first top-five hit and first entry into the chart’s top ten.
