Country music legend Willie Nelson was forced to cancel multiple shows last week after becoming ill, leaving fans concerned about his health. The singer’s team announced the cancellations on social media just hours before he was scheduled to take the stage for the opening night of the Outlaw Music Festival Tour.
“We regret to inform you that Willie Nelson is not feeling well,” his team shared. “Per doctor’s orders, he has been advised to rest for the next four days. He is expected to make a quick recovery and join the Outlaw Music Festival tour next week.”
With Willie unable to perform, his son Lukas Nelson and the Family Band stepped in to keep the music going. They performed a special set featuring some of Willie’s classic songs, along with other selections and special guests.
Meanwhile, Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, Alison Krauss and Celisse continued with their scheduled performances.
A few days later, Willie’s representative offered an encouraging update, saying they remained optimistic that the country icon would soon be back onstage.
“Willie will be fine,” the representative said, adding that they were looking forward to seeing the performances on the East Coast.
Willie Cancels Another Show, Fans Become Concerned
Willie was originally scheduled to perform in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on Wednesday, June 26. However, his team later announced that he would not be able to appear at that show either.
“Willie Nelson will not be performing at tonight’s show in Virginia Beach. We expect Willie to return to the tour shortly,” the statement said. Bob Dylan, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, and Celisse were still scheduled to perform, while Lukas Nelson and Family were set to perform another special set featuring Willie’s classics.
News of another cancellation quickly sparked concern among fans. Many took to social media to send messages of support and wish Willie a speedy recovery.
Fans wrote comments such as, “Please be ok man,” “Please take care of yourself, dear Willie!!!” and “These posts are making me worried.”
