Kelly filed for divorce in 2020, and their divorce was finalized in 2022.
Brandon privately battled cancer for three years before passing away on August 7, 2025, at the age of 48. Before his death, Kelly postponed her Las Vegas residency so she could “be fully present” with their children.
Since her divorce, fans have wondered whether Kelly would eventually open her heart to a new relationship. Although there have been occasional rumors about her dating life, the singer has generally kept that part of her life private.
During a September 30 appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast with hosts Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang, Kelly gave a rare update about her relationship status, confirming that she is currently single.
She also opened up about why she is not interested in dating right now, explaining that introducing a new relationship could affect her children during an already emotional period.
“My kids right now, I think there’s a lot behind that, but I think that would rock their boat a little bit,” Kelly shared.
She went on to explain that her decision is not simply about avoiding relationships. She genuinely enjoys the life she has built with her children and finally feels less overwhelmed.
“And honestly, this is not a bull*** answer. I love my life right now,” she said. “It just got to where I am not exhausted at every point of it.”
Kelly said she is currently unwilling to dedicate the time and energy required for a new relationship. Instead, she is enjoying everyday moments with her children and being present in their lives.
“We’re, you know, we’re cooking, we’re playing games. I’m there at [school] pickup, or I’m there dropping off. I’m there,” she said.
Kelly Clarkson Is Enjoying Life With Her Children
Kelly’s comments about no longer feeling exhausted come as another major chapter in her career has recently ended. The Kelly Clarkson Show aired its final episode on August 31 after seven seasons.
While the end of her talk show has given Kelly more time, she has not stepped away from television. She is currently serving as a coach on Season 30 of The Voice, which premiered on September 21.
Kelly is hoping to add another victory to her impressive record on the singing competition. She previously coached winners Brynn Cartelli, Chevel Shepherd, Jake Hoot, and Girl Named Tom.
On Season 30, Kelly is joined by Adam Levine, Queen Latifah, and Riley Green. Kelly and Adam are currently competing against each other once again as they search for another winning artist.
For now, however, Kelly appears focused on something much closer to home: spending time with her children, enjoying the quieter moments of everyday life, and making the most of this new chapter.
