The schoolgirl choir Angelicus Celtis was initially shy when they stepped onto the stage of *Britain’s Got Talent,* but they quickly impressed everyone with their stunning performance of Giacomo Puccini’s “Nessun dorma.” One of the girls admitted they were nervous before starting, but their worries were unfounded as they delivered an outstanding audition.
The choir, made up of girls aged 12 to 17 from South Wales, had been singing together for less than a year. Lead vocalist Holly began the performance with a powerful first verse that left the audience in awe. As the rest of the choir joined in, their voices blended beautifully, creating a heavenly sound.
Their performance was even more remarkable because they sang in flawless Italian, a challenge for the Welsh schoolgirls. The video of their audition became a hit, racking up 24 million views and becoming the third most popular choir performance in the show’s history.
The audience gave Angelicus Celtis a standing ovation, and the judges were full of praise. Simon Cowell remarked, “I’ve heard this song a lot, and this was, in my opinion, the most beautiful, incredible version. You really touched me. I thought it was sensational. I’m very excited for your future.”
Amanda Holden added, “You are the loveliest group of girls. The harmonizing was gorgeous, and the performance was stunning. You did Wales proud.” David Walliams also expressed his admiration, saying, “It’s mind-blowing to think you’re schoolgirls from Wales, not professional singers, because it sounded so perfect and beautiful.” The judges unanimously voted to send the choir through with “four big fat yeses.”
Angelicus Celtis advanced to the semi-finals, where they performed the hymn “Jerusalem.” Although their semi-final performance was praised by the judges, with Holden particularly impressed, they did not progress further, as Simon Cowell felt their second performance didn’t quite match the first.
