More than 20 years after Here for the Party changed her life, Gretchen Wilson is giving the iconic album a brand-new makeover.
Ahead of her appearance at CMA Fest, Wilson revealed that she is re-recording her breakthrough debut album as a full duets project, teaming up with some of the biggest names in country music for a fresh take on the songs that made her a star.
“I’ve got a big lineup of different people,” Wilson shared, teasing an impressive roster of collaborators that includes Ella Langley, Cody Johnson, Miranda Lambert, Ashley McBryde, and Travis Tritt.
Wilson explained that nearly every song from the original album will be transformed into a duet. The only exception is “Pocahontas Proud,” a deeply personal track that she says is too closely tied to her own story to share with another singer.
Originally released in 2004, Here for the Party became one of the defining country albums of the decade. The project introduced fans to Wilson’s unapologetic style and produced timeless hits like “Redneck Woman,” “When I Think About Cheatin’,” and the title track “Here for the Party.”
Now, revisiting those songs with duet partners has given Wilson a whole new perspective on the album.
“Some of these songs, doing them in a duet form, I don’t know how we didn’t think of this years ago,” she admitted. “They were almost written to be duets.”
For Ella Langley fans, the announcement is especially exciting.
