# Petition Targets P!nk’s UNICEF Role Amid Macklemore Controversy
A Change.org petition calling for P!nk to be removed from her UNICEF ambassador role has attracted tens of thousands of signatures, adding another layer to the controversy surrounding the singer’s reaction to Macklemore’s pro-Palestinian remarks.
The petition, titled “Remove Pink as a UNICEF Ambassador,” was launched on Sept. 11, 2026. Its organizers argue that P!nk’s public comments conflict with what they believe should be the neutrality and humanitarian principles associated with a UNICEF ambassador. The petition had surpassed 40,000 signatures and has since continued to gain support.
The dispute began after Macklemore spoke about Gaza and the West Bank during his Sept. 4 performance at MetLife Stadium while opening for Ed Sheeran. He performed his protest song “Hind’s Hall” and expressed support for Palestinians.
P!nk later reposted an Instagram Story from StopAntisemitism criticizing Macklemore’s performance. Her post sparked backlash from people who accused her of taking a position that was inconsistent with support for Palestinian civilians.
P!nk subsequently addressed the criticism in a lengthy statement. She referred to her experience with UNICEF and said she had mourned children affected by the conflict on both sides. She also said she was not calling for Macklemore to be silenced or for people to stop saying “Free Palestine.”
The petition, however, argues that her statements were inconsistent with the expectations it places on a UNICEF ambassador. Organizers say UNICEF representatives should promote compassion for children regardless of nationality, religion or political circumstances, and specifically called attention to Palestinian children in Gaza.
Meanwhile, the wider Macklemore controversy has continued to grow. He was subsequently removed from the remaining U.S. dates of Ed Sheeran’s tour after venue owners objected to his participation, according to tour promoter Messina Touring Group.
As of now, the petition represents a public campaign calling for P!nk’s removal; it does not mean that UNICEF has announced that she has been removed. UNICEF’s current official Goodwill Ambassador roster should be consulted for the organization’s present list of ambassadors.
